If you haven’t seen any of my previous articles, I will give you the blow-by-blow installation of the BigFix version 9 Pre-requisites installation in this article. Follow-up articles will be published covering the various aspects of installing BigFix v9 Server, Console, and Client applications, but for this article we’re focused on the pre-requisites.
I’ll be starting a brand new infrastructure and thus starting with the setup executable, available here… and the License Authorization file available from your sales person.
I won’t be describing every single screen, only those screens which need further explanation or major decision points during the installation.
I have a production license authorization file, so I’ll need to choose “Production” even if this was a lab environment.
I want this new infrastructure setup as lab.bigfix.me… so I’ll specify that here.
To make sure my internet Router knows where this new root server is, I’ve decided to setup a static IP address.
Now, I want the lab.bigfix.me to resolve differently when inside my network as opposed to outside the network. Therefore I jump over to my internal DNS server and “override” the externally hosted DNS servers with the internal address.
This new root server has internet access, so I’ll allow this pre-installer to use this connection to authorize my license file.
This is the only time you’ll be able to configure these settings… So be sure what you want these set to. I’ll just go with the default port and settings.
Once you hit ok, it will generate and save three new files… the license key, the license certificate and your infrastructure masthead file.
All done… You are left with this last screen which is your Installation Guide available from the start menu.
From this guide screen, you have access to the Server, Console and Client installers.
